A Chocolatey Trip to Hershey, PA

Image
Between an official tour, a free ride through the factory, and informational bus drivers we learned so much Hershey Trivia such as... Hershey has a strange official city fact. Hershey, PA has no legal status as an incorporated municipality. The town’s municipal services are provided by Derry Township, which is part of Dauphin County, PA. Hershey’s Chocolate World and the main area of Hershey features over 100 street lamps shaped like Hershey’s Kisses (some which are wrapped and some are not).   80 million Hershey’s Kisses are produced each day. Milton Hershey put a $300 deposit on the doomed Titanic voyage, but had to change his plans at the last minute due to an emergency. His wife, Kitty, was seriously sick.                         What would our chocolate world look like if they had gone on the trip?! Thomas Dambo and the Troll Hunt

Who is Thomas Dambo? Thomas Dambo is a Danish "recycle art activist" and is known for his giant wooden sculptures called trolls, entirely made out of recycled materials. The trolls are installed in various locations in 17 countries and counting.  We have visited... "The Troll that Hatched an Egg" located in Dayton, Ohio at  Aullwood Audubon The first Troll we met is named Little Bibbi. We have visited in different seasons, with groups of friends, hiking buddies, and family so to choose photos over the years we have visited was difficult.  When visiting this park there are two "starting" points. One which starts you here at Little Bibbi and the main Nature Center and store while the other one starts you at Bodil and the farm. My suggestion is, if you have kids, to start at Bodil. You can always use the enticement of seeing the animals and going in the barn to motivate them on the hike back. Along the trail next to Little Bibbi is also an interactive "n...

Celebration!! How do you celebrate your birthday? E turns FOUR this September. His birthday is usually the same weekend as our family reunion (which is did this year) so we celebrated on the camper! Simple, but cute we hung up a Happy Birthday banner, put a tablecloth on the table, and hung up a confetti banner. We also celebrated with special cups from the dollar store - fish bowls! From a kid's point of view, a birthday is the ultimate day of excitement and anticipation. It's a day filled with magic and wonder, where they feel like the center of the universe. The excitement often starts building days or even weeks in advance, as they eagerly count down the days until their special day arrives. For E, he starts the countdown the day AFTER his birthday with a countdown. The real thrill of the day comes from the anticipation of presents. They can hardly contain their excitement as they tear open each beautifully wrapped gift, revealing the treasures inside. Whether it's a ne...
