Hedgehog Leaves

In a previous blog post I wrote about how we played around with preserving leaves and then decorating them. The finished products of that project are on the left here. We ended up making a porcupine, a cat, a lion, and a leaf friend. It was definitely a fun project and if you don't have any of these items, don't worry about it you can make these materials or use what you have around the house.

  • Flour Paint Recipe

Materials:

water, flour, liquid watercolor paint or food coloring, cooking oil, and whisk.

Directions:

1/4 cup flour (or so), add the liquid watercolor paint or food coloring until desired color, a teaspoon of water, and a teaspoon of vegetable oil. The oil makes it glossy, do not add the oil if you want more of a matte look.

  • Leaves (outside!)
  • Googily eyes (use marker and white paper)

I am a firm believer that no matter who or where you are, if you want to create, CREATE! It is an amazing outlet for many for stress relief, family bonding, and mindfulness/self-care. And.. you know, just for fun!

Next, on the #guentheradentures Bucket List is our hedgehog project, which we did today! With it being so beautiful out we actually just explored in our own backyard.

With two buckets in hands the boys went around the yard and found leaves of all shapes, sizes, and colors. E knew we were making hedgehogs and after I showed him a picture that I found for inspiration he was excited to make them. Once we collected all of the leaves we went inside and he glued the leaves on the hedgehog. At first, we made one...

then we made another.. and then we made another and by then we had a "mommy" and "daddy" and a "E" so of course, we made a "B" too. He loved picking the leaves by size. The bigger hedgehogs received bigger leaves and the smaller hedgehogs received smaller leaves.

We compared the sizes of the leaves as we picked them out and glued them onto the hedgehog bodies.

The hedgehogs turned out pretty great! I say it was a win for a backyard #guentheradventures
