Buck Creek State Park
Buck Creek State Park is definitely a park that I have on my list to revisit. Being late December we can handle the cold, but the wind turned our faces red pretty quickly.
It was the PERFECT day for a kite! We also thought about paper airplanes. If they caught the wind right I bet they would go far. I have directions at the bottom of this post and the book from Usborne we LOVE that has paper airplanes designed and ready to go!
We learned with weather and experience that this time even though there is no SNOW on the ground between the wind and the cold of December in Ohio, we wore our "snow gear." This simply includes gloves (they take off constantly), snow bibs and their winter coats of course. Layers are a must and useful, if the sun had come out or if the wind slowed down they could always take a layer off, but in this case they needed all of their layers.
The boys were able to practice their letter identification on this trail, there were letter posts every so often. We walked around a loop to "g" before B's face was so red from the wind we walked back up the hill to our car for the day. We thought about finding a better trail in a more wooded area to help with the wind, but that will wait until the next trip we make to this park.
So, if you have followed my blog by now you know that B - LOVES rock collecting- well... really both of the boys love it. I had to take a picture because of this trail name. *A Stones Throw Trail* I am constantly researching new ways to craft and use rocks around our house. We do keep one rock from each place we travel to and I write in permanent marker where and the year, if we end up with hundreds we will need a new plan then the current jar that they sit inside. Some of the things we have done with rocks are: paint them, collect by place, rock garden in the back yard, and flower/vegetable garden as markers for plants.
As promised here are the two resources that I mentioned earlier. First is a picture guide with the website if you want to go and check out more projects to make a bird kite. The second picture is the Usborne paper plane book. I believe they have at least three different "themes," but it is possible they have more!
Due to our ADVENTURE BAG having a little bit of everything, we could make regular old paper airplanes out of "boring" paper, but in the future I think we might try and make one of these bird kites! Saved for the next #guentheradventures.
