Adventuring Together - Greta Eskridge
Tonight, I started and finished... reading “Adventuring Together” and it has really resonated with me. It is located on amazon here, I gave it 5 Stars *****
I’ve gone between the point of happy tears and super emotional to slapping my hand on the couch saying THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I WAS THINKING!
This easy read has further inspired me and confirmed my thoughts deep in my heart that, "yes, this is what you want! This is what we want for the boys! This is what we want for our family! Yes, this is why you are doing this!"
I am not a camper, but I love the idea of camping.
I’ve never really hiked, a few times in high school, but nothing exciting.
When we go camping we rent a cabin, sometimes it doesn’t have running water but that’s us getting - crazy - as we get and.... I really really hate bugs. Ugh! Sweat and heat of summer and then you add in bugs!
I am loving winter hikes for this reason, even though you are tripling the getting ready time and amount of clothes needed and involved with a 2 and 4 year old to stay warm.
I constantly doubt myself whether we are doing enough but we are getting outside and we are moving but we are spending time together. (Away from screens!) But I’m not gonna lie, screens show up for the long ride home so my littlest can take a nap and my oldest will be quiet for a while.
The first time we went for a hike we were not prepared and it was totally unplanned. It started raining, but we looked at each other and said we were doing it anyway! I don’t really remember the why, but it started a love of these adventures together.
We’ve gone from a short walk where my little one sits down on the way back because he is done to spending hours outside hiking over 4 miles a day although he does spend part of that time in the backpack carrier.
The moments that bring a smile to my face and I hope we continue to foster is the moment when my oldest looks at me at random - during the craziness of the week as we shuttle from house to house while grandparents babysit while mom and dad go to work for the day - and he says, “Mom can we go adventuring?”
Yes, bud let’s go!
