Adams Lake State Park

Adams Lake State Park
Written by: dad

After an hour and a half of driving we finally showed up to Adams Lake State Park. It was a warmer day, but even still everything was still covered in snow, even the driveway into the park. I (dad) was excited that he got to drive in the snow. We quickly realized the boys who had refused to take a nap on the way... NEEDED a nap. Mom said, just let's get them outside. I think one of the boys and I forget at this point cried from pure crankiness for the first bit of the trail, but then once he started picking up snow and walking about he was good to go.

We walked on the trails in the Nature Center and every quarter mile or so there was a "fun fact" plaque that we read out loud. The boys got a snack at each of these.

We saw A LOT of bunny rabbit foot prints. Or squirrels... or raccoons... we are still learning our footprints. Click here for a helpful printable to identify tracks, especially in the snow.

One of the things that was interesting about this trail was that the top layer was ice, but a very thin sheet and then topped with snow. Every step that Jen and I took sunk us into the ground with a CRUNCH. The boys were light enough that this didn't happen too often for them. It definitely made the trail more of a work out for us.

We finally made it to the end of the trail. It was so BEAUTIFUL out that mom brought out some of the secret toys that we change out depending on the day and park. This time she brought shovels! The boys ran around in the empty parking lot and grassy area and dug into the snow. They would lay down and make snow angels, dig in the snow, eat a snack and then repeat the process. We were out there for a long time just doing this, but it was a rare and warm afternoon.

Adams Lake State Park is "located in Ohio's Bluegrass region — one of the state's most scenic and interesting areas — Adams Lake State Park has much to offer the nature enthusiast. Remnant prairies and a quiet lake can be enjoyed in this small but unique 50-acre park," according to OhioDNR.

Gotta love these #guentheradventures
