Buckeye Lake State Park
Buckeye Lake State Park has two marvelous points that make it a park we would visit again.
"Whaaa Jen?! There are parks you wouldn't revisit?"
Yes. Actually, there are some parks that I say, "Okay, we visited and checked it off the list." And then we move on...
"Okay Jen, so what makes this park ON this amazing so called list?"
Well, Buckeye Lake State Park is Ohio's FIRST state park. Yes, it is historical! According to OhioDNR, "In order to provide interconnecting waterways for a growing state, a canal system was developed in the early 1800s. The system required feeder lakes to supply the water necessary to maintain the 4-foot canal water level. Because of their location, areas such as St. Marys, Indian Lake, Lake Loramie, Guilford, and Buckeye lakes were to be developed as part of the project. In 1949, when the Ohio Department of Natural Resources was created, the area officially became Buckeye Lake State Park."Moving past the neat history, Buckeye Lake reminds me of home which is near Lake Erie. I grew up within a walking distance or a bike ride away from the Lake Erie shore, with its rocky shores and scenic feel. I miss it sometimes. When we walked onto the pier (not a dock) we learned lots of new words during this adventure too, it felt like being back home.
Doesn't it just speak like "Lake Erie" to you? No... just me? Well, it also has an amazing 4.1 mile paved walking path around a huge chunk of the lake, so there! It is a nice place to go for a walk too.
Learning about LNT (Leave No Trace), all about erosion and what the Ohio DNR is doing for us is really quite inspiring. I love that these signs are a gentle reminder to, leave the rocks not just because we want them here for looks, but they serve a purpose! We also were able to go across a bridge.
And see not one, but two ducks! This was the highlight of B's trip.
In case you need ANOTHER reason to come and visit. We also found... a dead fish. HA! What speaks more like "Lake Erie" than a dead fish. You may need to zoom in, it's a little guy.
We enjoyed (especially me!) this #guentheradventures
