Rentchler Forest Preserve - Metropark

Renchtler Forest Preserve I think is a well hidden gem. Not to say that it is hidden, but I don't think people really know of it's beautiful trails inside this Metropark.

We hiked (mom solo) on this trail called Cascades Trail which can be combined with some other trails to make a "Waterfall Trail" but we just did the .9 mile trail... which really ended up being over a mile because some of the trail is not really marked well.

Today we hiked and saw many things that were new and some that were not new, but we still enjoyed seeing them anyway. This trail had many blooming beautiful flowers. We saw yellow, purple, white to name a few. Included was also a waterfall, although small and there were several "off trail" sections to see more of the hidden waterfalls, but we didn't take those. Besides being super steep, we try to follow LNT as much as we can. The waterfall was very pretty and to my surprise was at the end of the trail. Our original destination was out of reach today so we didn't come as prepared with a map and such that I usually have.

We make silly faces more than "serious" ones these days.

Along the trail we also were able to witness a MOLE crossing the path with his little star nose. It was so cute!! I know technically I shouldn't like moles because they tear up our yard, but this little guy was cute! He was like a little wiggly brown log and went into the grassy area before I could even pull my phone out of my pocket to snap a picture. Here is a link to learn more about moles from the Wild Kratts! We were able to see some other amazing things on our hike though including... flowers!

B was also able to use his binoculars.... sort of.... to see the tree tops!

Last, but not least...

The swinging bridge. B wasn't too sure about it, but I didn't mind holding his hand. It made my heart so happy. I love that he is still little enough to want mom to reassure him every once and a while. He is at that age where 'I can do it!!' is a common statement made.

Interesting fact, it is recommended that only 5 hikers at a time be on this bridge. Noted and followed!

Overall, I would love to do this trail again. It was a blast to see all the things we were able to see. The trail also has a play-set nearby so of course after the trail we walked over and were able to play on it before we left for lunch. It was a fun mom solo hike with the boys. I love my #guentheradventures

Other honorable mentions...

Seriously, the goofiest boys I've ever seen.

They have grown SO much since our first hike. B wouldn't have been able to walk across so many tree roots and branches without a hand and help.

I love seeing him walk into an adventure.... and of course, a cicada joke.
