Geocache at Thomas O' Marsh Lake
We enjoyed a bike ride through Thomas O Marsh Lake park, newly updated it includes a fitness trail, many fishing areas, boat docks, and geocaching spots.
Have we talked geocaching yet?
Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunt! You use GPS-enabled devices or what we use the official Geocaching APP (free) on your phone!
You navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location and it can be as small as a tooth floss container and as big as a lunchbox. Maybe bigger, but that is the largest that we have found! For this adventure we took along three VERY important items:
1. Pen (to sign your name and date to say "FOUND IT"
(which you can also do in the APP)
2. We take odd miscellaneous items with us such as small coins or trinkets. This we can only leave in caches big enough. In addition, you can register them and follow them as they move from one cache to the next!!
3. We take a camera and notebook. The camera is to document our adventures (of course).
The notebook is for E to make our "treasure maps."
He enjoy making "x marks the spots" and maps and I encourage him to make them!
We also uncovered a hidden oasis that is possibly well known, but new to us. Around the bend is a small trail that leads down to a beach. The boys threw rocks until the sun went down.
Simple joy.
We also enjoyed sitting and relaxing on the beach, while the boys threw rocks into the water.
Most importantly, there are three "unofficially" rules for muggles to know:
1. If you take something from the cache, leave something of equal or greater value.
2. Write about your find in the cache logbook.
3. Log your experience on the APP or website.
You will also see the following words, phrases, and acronyms while geocaching- Hitchhiker, BYOP, TFTC, and so forth - if you're still a "muggle." Check out this Glossary of Terms to help you translate.
I can't wait to go out and geocache on our next #guentheradventures
