Miami Whitewater Forest

Miami Whitewater Forest really does have a little something for everyone. Just listed in a brief summary from Great Parks it includes, "Miami Whitewater Forest offers a visitor center with nature displays and a gift shop.

The 4,670 acre park also features multiple trails, including the paved 7.8-mile Shaker Trace trail and 1.4-mile fitness trail, as well as the 1.7-mile Badlands, 0.8-mile Oakleaf, 0.6-mile Tallgrass Prairie and 2.1-mile Timberlakes nature trails, plus two horseback riding trails.

Visitors can enjoy a 9-hole disc golf course and play or practice at the Miami Whitewater Forest Soccer

Complex in a men's, women's or co-rec league. Shelters, picnic areas and a youth camp area are reservable. The park also includes an 11-acre dog park with play fields, an all-season area and a dog agility course."

Two words: beavers and turtles.

Yes.

Let's go.

We decided to check out the Oakleaf Trail at Miami Whitewater because we heard of it's unique wildlife. I personally have only had one possible beaver spotting in my life and I still would love to see another. Oakleaf trail is about a mile and does have steps and hills. (No strollers on this hike!) The boys had their backpacks, waters, binoculars, and we were ready to go see the beavers. The first animal we saw however was...

Turtles!! We counted 14 from our spot on the trail, but from this distance there could have been a few hidden on top of each other because they were all lying almost on top of the other. They also ranged in sizes from a lunchbox to a sandwich size. We used our binoculars to get a closer look!

The boys really enjoyed seeing all of the different pieces of this trail. It goes around the lake with a decent sized bridge before back on the dirt path again which puts you back on a shorter bridge over a creek before turning you uphill which B loved.

He is "I do it" "I do it" Mr. Independent and wants to climb the stairs all by himself.

He did a great job, he has come SO FAR from when we first started hiking. He went from walking feet to walking at most 2 miles. Look at these boys go!

E as always is our nature photographer. I love these #guentheradventures
