Headlands Beach State Park
OhioDNR listed on their website that, "The trademark of Headlands Beach State Park is its massive 35-acre Lake Erie beach. Besides providing exceptional sunbathing and swimming opportunities, Headlands Beach also offers unique beach glass hunting and phenomenal Lake Erie sunset viewing. Picnicking is available throughout the park, and a seasonal concession provides a wide variety of tasty food and cold drink options. The interaction of the lake, wind, and sand creates the rare lakeshore sand dune habitat which supports rare and unique plants, and helps position the park as one of Ohio’s premier birding locations. Additional wildlife viewing opportunities include nesting bald eagles, red fox, and the spectacular monarch butterfly migration." I was able to look through this beach and a place to hike at in a new way and through a new lens. I grew up 20 minutes away from this "state park" and really only ever thought of it as a beach. We went here in the summer and we played in the water and laid on the sand.
Headlands Beach State Park has a Headlands Dunes State Nature Preserve adjacent to the end of the beach leading to the farthest point of the area. There is a mile long loop and also a place to visit and walk in order to see interesting wild life.
Of course our favorite past time is... rock collecting! We found rocks and put rocks back. We washed the rocks and sorted them by color. We sorted the rocks by size and then started back over. The boys have never really experience the Great Lake Erie either and the force of the waves made them giggle and hold onto my hand for dear life as it came crashing to shore and on their feet.
“When a king reigns it is thanks to the people, when a river sings it is thanks to the stones." (Malagasy)
We enjoyed this and many more to come of #guentheradventures
Take a guess... was it windy outside?
