Deer Creek State Park

Image
Deer Creek State Park was a really nice park and we enjoyed going on the trail. One of the things we did on this hike was try to find pinecones and other more unique finds. We sometimes go to a park or on a hike with a "plan" like a scavenger hunt and other times, like today, we just looked for things along the way or pointed out something we found cool or interesting.

A.W. Marion State Park

First off, the full time camper's here were so friendly and helpful! We arrived at A. W. Marion State Park ready to do the Lake Trail which depending on which map you read is either 3.6 miles long or 5 miles long. We pulled up to the campground check in station to pick up a park map (I always print one off just in case, but we try to get the official one too!) The office was still closed, it's still off season, and the map box was empty! Some kids riding bikes recognized that we were new and didn't belong and came over to help, with the verification with their dad or grandma they let us know there weren't any paper maps but we could get one online. So kind!

Hueston Woods State Park was our first adventure with our friends. We are trying to invite more and more friends with us to go adventuring. The things we brought with us: Adventure Backpack Paper map of the park (very important!) Wipes Binoculars Scavenger Hunt Camera Extra Clothes Snacks Water Bottles Magnifying Glass Rock collection bags (zip lock bags) Band Aides Mini notepad and crayon (think blues clues meets adventure) Also brought along with us on this trip: rain boots, winter coats and rain coats, and extra clothes. Preparing for the winter thaw, fresh warm weather, and mud puddles I wore my own "winter pants" with my hiking boots to protect against the mud. (It was very helpful!)    Things we are GLAD we brought with us: scavenger hunt game and outside Yahtzee. (See below for the different games we played.) 2 Year Old Yahtzee Version 1 1. Give 1 dice to the child 2. Roll your dice 3. Have the child match their dice with yours, roll until successful Yahtzee Version 2

Adams Lake State Park

Adams Lake State Park  Written by: dad After an hour and a half of driving we finally showed up to Adams Lake State Park. It was a warmer day, but even still everything was still covered in snow, even the driveway into the park. I (dad) was excited that he got to drive in the snow. We quickly realized the boys who had refused to take a nap on the way... NEEDED a nap. Mom said, just let's get them outside. I think one of the boys and I forget at this point cried from pure crankiness for the first bit of the trail, but then once he started picking up snow and walking about he was good to go. We walked on the trails in the Nature Center and every quarter mile or so there was a "fun fact" plaque that we read out loud. The boys got a snack at each of these. We saw A LOT of bunny rabbit foot prints. Or squirrels... or raccoons... we are still learning our footprints. Click here for a helpful printable to identify tracks, especially in the snow. One of the things that was inter

Lake Logan has a story. The story of Lake Logan State Park revolves around.. my husband and I's anniversary. One anniversary, our first one as a married couple, we ended up rented a cabin on Lake Logan. We traveled down to the Lake and close to the boat dock and rental we took a picture.
