Twin Creek Metropark

Have you ever heard of the book, "Going on a bear hunt?" How about the "A, b, c" song? I know these are things that any parent reading this is probably shaking their head saying, how would I not know this book and song?! I have them memorized! Well, one activity that we do quite often on our hiking adventures are the following two activities. The first activity is called.... iSpy. I know, I know. Groundbreaking! We play iSpy colors, iSpy type of trees, and the boys favorite is iSpy the item. How we play this game is simple, we say iSpy a mushroom... and then you have the find a mushroom.  A variation of this game is the storytelling game. E loves to make up stories and because E loves to do it, B loves to do it too. It's like monkey see monkey do over here with these two brothers. Here is a story they told as we walked through the trail.

Let's go Camping

Image
E asked all summer, "Can we sleep in a tent?" "Can we go camping outside in a tent?" "When are we going to sleep in the tent?" As a family, we have never tent camped before, therefore this is what we did and here is what we learned. 1. We asked a friend who camps to help us out. He was incredibly amazing! Not only did he let us borrow both a tent and other items to try it out, but he also taught us how to set up the tent. We waited until the beginning of fall so it wouldn't be extremely hot or humid like summer normally ends up being. 2. The most important detail of our camping adventure was our location, the backyard. For many reasons we wanted to be close to home in order in case the boys wouldn't fall asleep, we needed a bathroom, or if we decided that camping wasn't for us. 3. Sneak peak... we loved it!   We picked a date and got started. Part of our goal was to spend as much time outside as possible for this adventure to make it as authent...

Kelleys Island & Catawba State Park

Image
Our annual trip to the area usually involves a trip on the Jet Express to Put in Bay. We have a system for our Put in Bay trips since we've taken them almost every year of E's life. Most of the adventure occurs driving the golf cart around. It is the only time the boys ever ride a golf cart and therefore it makes it the best thing in the world. Plus, it's usually hot so it provides a nice breeze as we adventure around the islands. None of us, my parents included, have ever been to Kelleys Island and so we decided this year to take a visit and see what it has to offer for a family vacation.

Pike Lake State Park

Image
Pike Lake State Park is a "hole in the wall bar." The place that everyone goes too because the locals recommend it. Others, people from outside the are, would really never know it both exists and it is a cool place to be since there isn't a whole lot at the park and it's just okay looking.

Caesar's Creek State Park

Image
We quickly made Caesar's Creek State Park a favorite stop when seeking a waterfall adventure. This post is a combination of trips because we went and hiked this trail back to back. When we first started our hiking journey in 2020 we never realize where it would lead us or what new places we would get to explore.

John Bryan's Storybook Trail

Image
John Bryan State Park is about to see us frequently. This is a state park that I don't think we have given enough time to exploring and we will be back to walk more, hike more, and explore more. For this trip we went on the Storybook Trail to read while we hike. Next time we plan on bringing some books to add to the Little Library. Have you heard of Little Libraries? We have one in our front yard and you will find them randomly all over the world. Each Storybook Trail usually has a Little Library next to it as well. The goal of Little Libraries are, " Little Free Library book exchanges are an excellent vehicle for areas without easy access to books. Through the Impact Library Program, we provide no-cost Little Free Library book exchanges to communities where books are scarce. We’ve provided more than 1,350 libraries through this program." In addition, " More than 30 million adults cannot read or write above a third-grade level. Books in the hands of children have a ...

"Ribbit The Exhibit" at The Dawes Arboretum

Image
Ribbit the Exhibit was merely the excuse for us to visit friends from east of Columbus, Ohio where Dawe's Arboretum is located. The day was on the warmer side, but we more than enjoyed our time and wished that Dawe's was closer to our house. I have only heard good things about it and we were excited to get the chance to experience it as well. I attached photos of our favorite frogs. In order from favorite frog to still awesome frogs... 1. Banjo Buddies 2. Digging in the Dirt 3. Leap Frogs 4. I Spy Frog I added a final favorite of mine at the end of this post, but these were the boys top four. We all loved the Frog Mower as well, but I seem to have accidentally deleted the photo of that frog. The exhibit website said, "24 whimsical frog sculptures will delight visitors along the Parkwoods Trail, in the Japanese Garden and the Learning Garden. The exhibit features frogs dancing the tango, playing leapfrog, working in the garden and more. This unique exhibit will be on displ...
